The Shift2Zero project was represented at the International Physical Internet Conference (IPIC) 2026, held from 8–10 June in Bordeaux, France, where it showcased its contribution to advancing sustainable urban logistics through Physical Internet innovation.

As part of the conference programme, project partner ALICE – the Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe – organised the special session “Practical & Innovation Contributions: Modular Load Units and Vehicle Design for the Physical Internet: Operational Requirements and System-Level Impacts in Urban Logistics”. The session also featured contributions from Shift2Zero partners FIT Consulting and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, highlighting collaborative efforts to develop innovative solutions for urban freight transport.

The session explored how modular load units and next-generation vehicle designs can support the implementation of Physical Internet principles in urban logistics systems. These developments are closely aligned with Shift2Zero’s mission to accelerate the transition towards more efficient, user-centred and zero-emission urban logistics operations.

In addition to its contribution to the conference programme, Shift2Zero was featured in the ALICE exhibition area through a dedicated roll-up display. This provided further opportunities to engage with conference participants, exchange knowledge with stakeholders and raise awareness of the project’s innovative approach to sustainable urban logistics.

As one of the leading international events dedicated to the development of the Physical Internet, IPIC brings together researchers, industry representatives, policymakers and innovation stakeholders to explore how logistics systems can become more efficient, sustainable and interconnected. The conference provided an excellent platform for Shift2Zero to share its work and engage with key actors shaping the future of freight transport.
