The Municipality of Thessaloniki advances sustainable urban logistics through a participatory workshop within Shift2Zero
On November 14th, the Municipality of Thessaloniki hosted the 1st Participatory Workshop of the Action Group for the Sustainable Urban Logistics Plan (SULP) at Thessaloniki City Hall, bringing together key stakeholders to co-design the future of urban freight and logistics in the city.
The workshop, co-organised by the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), gathered representatives from the Municipality of Thessaloniki, research institutions, and partners from several European-funded projects, fostering a collaborative dialogue on sustainable urban mobility, logistics transformation, and data-driven planning.
During the event, participants worked on mapping current challenges and identifying innovative solutions for urban supply chains, with a strong focus on reducing environmental impact while improving efficiency and resilience. Special attention was given to the strategic role of the New Railway Station, explored as a catalyst for upgrading the Western Urban Area and strengthening logistics operations, in synergy with the ReGenWesT project.
The workshop also featured the presentation of EIT Raptor: Thessaloniki Dataspace, highlighting the importance of coordinated data collection and utilization to support evidence-based decision-making in urban mobility and logistics planning.
Thessaloniki’s active involvement in Shift2Zero was an integral part of the discussion, underlining the project’s contribution to the city’s transition towards zero-emission, smart, and sustainable urban logistics systems. Alongside Shift2Zero, the workshop was supported by other European initiatives, including ReGenWesT, DISCO, URBANE, and MEDCOLOURS, demonstrating the strong synergies between EU projects in accelerating the green transition of cities.
Through initiatives like this participatory workshop, Thessaloniki continues to strengthen its role as a forward-looking partner city in Shift2Zero, leveraging collaboration, innovation, and stakeholder engagement to shape scalable solutions for sustainable urban logistics across Europe.
