Shift2Zero showcases progress and builds partnerships at Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2026

The Shift2Zero project participated in the Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2026, held on 18–21 May in Budapest, presenting its latest progress and engaging with the wider transport research and innovation community.

Held every two years, TRA is Europe’s leading conference on transport research and innovation, bringing together researchers, industry, policymakers and operators from across all transport modes (road, rail, waterborne and aviation). It offered an ideal platform to our project to share the project’s work and connect with stakeholders shaping the future of mobility.

Shift2Zero engaged with the conference through several contributions, with the project team active within the Urban Logistics neighbourhood at the stand of ALICE, the Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe. As a project partner, ALICE played an active role in the event, including organising one of the special sessions in which Shift2Zero took part.

In a technical session dedicated to the circular economy, Janin Fauth (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) presented the paper “User Preferences for Electric Light Commercial Vehicle Innovations in Urban Logistics,” exploring how end-user needs can shape the design and uptake of electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) solutions. Moreover, as part of a special programme on Physical Internet research and innovation, Paola Astegiano (FIT Consulting) presented how Physical Internet principles are being put into practice through concrete cases, including Shift2Zero alongside the DISCO and IKIGAI projects.

Finally, in the Poster Exhibition, the project coordinator Fanny Breuil (Eurecat) showcased the poster “Accelerating Zero-Emission Urban Logistics Through User-Centric eLCV Innovation: The Shift2Zero Project.” It was a great opportunity to engage with visitors, partners, policymakers and researchers, and to exchange ideas on the project’s approach.

Across its contributions, Shift2Zero highlighted its work towards smarter routing, charging and fleet management, helping logistics operators go electric without compromising efficiency or service. The project also reaffirmed its commitment to building partnerships for practical, scalable zero-emission urban logistics.
