Shift2Zero hosts AR-based concept vehicle workshops in Italy

As part of the Shift2Zero project, partners from the Institute for Automotive Engineering (IKA) led two hands-on workshops in Italy, bringing an innovative augmented-reality (AR) experience to logistics operators and vehicle manufacturers. Using AR headsets, participants explored full-scale virtual vehicle concepts, providing practical feedback that will guide the development of sustainable and user-oriented solutions for future urban logistics.

Shift2Zero hosts AR-based concept vehicle workshops in Italy

As part of the Shift2Zero project, partners from the Institute for Automotive Engineering (IKA) organised and led two hands-on workshops last week at Gruber Logistics and Alkè Electric Vehicles in Italy. The sessions brought an innovative augmented-reality (AR) experience directly to the expert teams onsite.

Using an AR headset, participants were able to immerse themselves for the first time in one of the project’s upcoming vehicle concepts, still only existing in digital form. The full-scale virtual model allowed teams to open doors, examine interior layouts, and evaluate every component in detail, as if the prototype were physically present.

This interactive approach proved essential for collecting early, practical feedback from logistics operators and vehicle manufacturers. The insights gathered during the workshops will now feed directly into the continued development of Shift2Zero’s solutions, supporting the creation of sustainable, efficient, and user-oriented vehicle concepts for future urban logistics.

These activities mark an important step forward in ensuring that the project’s innovations are shaped by real operational needs and grounded in practical usability.
