First Shift2Zero user workshop held at DHL Express Norway in Oslo
On May 14th and 15th, the Shift2Zero project launched its first on-site user workshop, kicking off a series of hands-on collaborative sessions aimed at co-developing zero-emission logistics solutions. The workshop, hosted at DHL Express Norway’s facilities in Oslo, was organised by the Institute for Automotive Engineering (IKA) and participated by Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
The session focused on understanding the needs and challenges of delivery couriers using electric vans, covering key aspects such as vehicle design, usability, safety, and integration into daily operations. These user insights will directly inform the development of innovative electric light commercial vehicles (e-LCVs) in the Shift2Zero project.
A key highlight of the workshop was the opportunity to join DHL Express couriers on a gemba ride, getting a close-up view of urban deliveries using electric vans and Paxsters, compact electric vehicles developed by Paxster AS. This immersive experience offered a real-world look into zero-emission delivery in action within Oslo, one of Europe’s leading cities in electric vehicle adoption, where electric vans, taxis, trucks, and even excavators are increasingly the norm.
The insights gained during the workshop will directly contribute to the design and optimisation of next-generation e-LCVs within the Shift2Zero project, helping to ensure these solutions are truly fit for purpose in real-world logistics.
