Bologna is a major transport and logistics hub in Italy, with a population of around 390.000 citizens (1 million in the whole metropolitan area). Its economy is driven by services, industry and tourism, and it is home to the University of Bologna, Europe’s oldest. The Municipality of Bologna, with around 4000 professionals, has extensive experience in managing sustainable mobility and participating in European projects. With a strong commitment towards the reduction of congestion and polluting emissions, and towards urban quality of life, Bologna is undergoing important transformations supporting the goals of the EU’s mission 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030
Contribution to Shift2Zero
One of the pilot cities in the Shift2Zero project, the Municipality of Bologna will support the testing of performances and reliability of a new operational set up, involving urban transhipment hubs and new tailored vehicles designed for optimized load factor and safe and secure loading and unloading operations.
